I share Rick's concern about the umbric intergrades. We
have just begun to understand these soils in some of the
more remote regions of Appalachia. Moreover, they are more
extensive than we first believed. Keeping these at the
series level will be considered in final correlations in
MO-13. Rick makes a valid point about carbon stocks of
these forest soils. It will be difficult for users of our
data to model organic carbon if they overlook the obvious
things that we try to put into the classification. This
subject needs further discussion. I regret that more
discussion was not generated when the DRAFT comments were
distributed. I will admit it, I liked the HAPLUMBREPTS!
Thanks, Steve C.
