Re: Elimination of the former Umbric subgroup in Inceptisols

In my concerns (referred to by Rick Livingston above) I made some suggestions. I received very little
respondence. Consequently, I have hesitated to go further with a proposal.

It is my feeling that we need separate subgroups for these soils. Since the Humic has already been
used as a subgroup name in that great group a new name is needed for this subgroup. In my concerns
I suggested some coined names. In the Dystrudepts, since Humic has already been used for the soils
with mollic or umbric epipedons, the suggested name would be ""Humochric"" (Hum-ochric). The
name is connotative in that these soils have an ochric epipedon that, in at least the upper part, is dark
colored enough for a mollic or umbric epipedon.

If there is some more favorable respondence, I would be glad to writeup a proposal.
