interpreting across differing soil surveys

What is the acceptable procedure to label soil series (cross identify) from adjacent counties wherein one series was identified in
a soil survey published in 1958 and a similar soil was identified in a soil survey published in 1972?

Can you direct me to a publication that identifies the methodology to join legends from adjacent counties wherein soil series
are very similar but the taxonomy principals differ due to the soil surveys being published in differing eras?
