Luvisols are similar to the Alfisols of Soil Taxonomy. Luvisols exclude the ""Kandi"" and ""Kanhap"" great
groups and subgroups. Acrisols are similar to Soil Taxonomy's ""Kandi"" and ""Kanhap"" great groups
and subgroups of Ultisols. The Luvisols have both reatively high base saturation and cation exchange
capacity (CEC). The Acrisols have both reatively low base saturation and cation exchange capacity
(CEC).

The Luvisols would be much better suited for farming in the natural condition. Acrisols are relatively
poor soils for growing most crops in there natural state. Because of the reatively low CEC of the
Acrisols it takes fewer amendments to correct the low base status and to bring fertility to a faverable
level. Many Acrisols are in warm climates with adequate rainfall and with good managment and
amendments can also be productive.
