At one time some Chilean soil scientists proposed a
petrosalic horizon. Also some of the soil scientists
working in very arid, cold areas mentioned that they too had
encountered such horizons. When we worked with the soil
scientists from the cold areas, we found it difficult to
define these horizons because they were non-cemented (slaked
in water). The soil scientists from the cold areas were not
able to help write an acceptable definition, so we let it
go. We weren't able to determine from the literature if the
petrosalic horizons from Chile slaked in water. If anyone
knows about petrosalic horizons in Chile or other areas, we
would appreciate more information.
