The text of SOIL TAXONOMY 2nd Ed. 1999 alludes to many of the theories of soil formation. Several theories are mentioned in the discussion of the argillic horizon, page 29 and the kandic horizon, page 42. The small amount of textural differentiation in the oxic and some cambic horizons may be the result of bioturbation, though little speculation is given in the text. The section on ""lithologic Discontinuities"" gives some guidelines in recognizing differences that are inherited from the parent materials of the soil.

Some of the literature cited at the end of each chapter of SOIL TAXONOMY may also be of help to you.
