Keys Version 8 changed Histic Sulfaquents to key out after Haplic Sulfaquents, in Version 7 Histic Sulfaquents keyed out first. We are proposing to change it back (taxonomy proposal for the NE/South regional cooperative conference) UNLESS a reason for this change can be found in the documentation. This only affects a few soil series namely Matunuck soil in MLRA 144A which has a histic epi would now classify to haplic (same as the drier Sandyhook) and Purnell series in NJ. Does any know why Haplics were changed to key out before Histic? National conference reports from that time were checked and no mention made. Thanks.
