Another item to consider for taxonomic classification of soils with histic epipedons is contained in the Key to Soil Orders. Item number K. 2. B. (1) allows a soil that has only a histic epipedon to classify in the order of Inceptisols (e.g., Histic Humaquepts) versus in the order of Entisols.
