Histosols Bulk Density, moist - Measurement Method

November 18, 2018 04:14PM
Hello,

I am looking for some information on the measurement of bulk density for histosols (peat). I notice in Soil Taxonomy that the bulk densities are described as, "bulk density, moist", and that descriptions for the lab methods are given in the Soil Survey Lab Methods Manual SSIR 42. However the Lab manual describes bulk densities at field-state, 33-kPa equilibration, oven-dry, or rewet. Can anyone tell me at which moisture content the "moist" bulk density described in Soil Taxonomy would relate to?

Ultimately I am trying to obtain a bulk density value for various histosols at 45% moisture content. I am not a soils expert so please assume little/no prior knowledge, and many thanks for your help.
